Five Galveston Seafood Spots That Belong to the Community, Not the Itinerary

Galveston's seafood scene has two layers: what the tourist corridor shows you, and what the year-round community actually eats. Five locally owned spots define the second layer. Shrimp N Stuff has been serving the island since 1976, with two brick-and-mortar locations and a food truck offering shrimp po-boys, homemade gumbo, and oyster po-boys that generations of Galveston families have made part of their routine. Little Daddy's Gumbo Bar brings award-winning credentials - voted Best Gumbo, Best Cajun, Best Shrimp, Best Oysters, and Best Crawfish - to a made-from-scratch menu of gumbos, seafood stews, and jambalaya, with Happy Hour running weekdays 3pm to 7pm. Tequila Rock Kitchen and Cantina holds a spot steps from the cruise terminal and serves tacos, fajitas, and fresh seafood with pickup and delivery available. Riondo's Ristorante on The Strand and Rudy and Paco on Postoffice Street round out the five. Find them all on the Galveston Shoutouts Directory.

Five Locally Owned Galveston Restaurants Worth Coming Back To

Galveston has five independently owned restaurants worth adding to your regular rotation this fall, and none of them are competing primarily for cruise ship foot traffic. Gaido's, a Seawall institution since 1911, serves Gulf Coast seafood and handles private events for up to 200 guests. Benno's Cajun Seafood brings blue crab in a secret BBQ preparation alongside catering for weddings, reunions, and corporate gatherings. Fish Company Taco on 23rd Street is open Tuesday through Sunday with coastal fusion tacos in a neighborhood that locals know and visitors mostly skip. Rudy and Paco Restaurant and Bar holds down the historic district on Postoffice Street, where independent dining has outlasted every franchise attempt on the block. Tequila Rock covers The Strand with Mexican and seafood options and pickup or delivery for weeknights. Check out all five listings on Galveston Shoutouts Directory.
